Abstract Art Without Pictures

Just The Words

Some of my art involves paring inspirational quotes with my abstract paintings. Here is a sampling of several of my painting titles and quotes from a few months back. It can give you a flavor of the value I am trying to pass on without having to scroll through a mile of pictures that you may not like.

Entry From Black 6 x 7 inches or smaller SKU 4391
“Through the present moment, you have access to the power of life itself, that which has traditionally been called “God.” As soon as you turn away from it, God ceases to be a reality in your life, and all you are left with is the mental concept of God, which some people believe in and others deny. Even belief in God is only a poor substitute for the living reality of God manifesting every moment of your life.” ― Eckhart Tolle

Burning Blue 17 x 21 inches or smaller SKU 4392
“Knowing yourself is to be rooted in Being, instead of lost in your mind.” ― Eckhart Tolle

Hope Highlights 17 x 21 inches or smaller SKU 4393
“The goal of any spiritual person is to strive towards attaining self-realization by living spontaneously in the present moment of physical reality, free from anxiety and distress, unencumbered by frivolous affections, and liberated from specious attachments.” ― Kilroy J. Oldster, Dead Toad Scrolls

Woven Wafts 17 x 21 inches or smaller SKU 4394
“Don’t grieve over the past, It’s all gone! Don’t worry about the future, It may never come! Live in the present, And enjoy every moment” ― Mouloud Benzadi

Blue Pattern 6 x 11 inches or smaller SKU 4395
“I want to see you happy. I want you to live in the moment and smile spontaneously. Your entire face lights up. It’s beautiful.” ― Kerry Lonsdale, Everything We Keep

Matrix Blue 6 x 11 inches or smaller SKU 4396
“The most common ego identifications have to do with possessions, the work you do, social status and recognition, knowledge and education, physical appearance, special abilities, relationships, person and family history, belief systems, and often nationalistic, racial, religious, and other collective identifications. None of these is you.” ― Eckhart Tolle

Red Green and Blue 17 x 21 inches or smaller SKU 4397
“Power over others is weakness disguised as strength.” ― Eckhart Tolle

Powerful 17 x 21 inches or smaller SKU 4398
“You become most powerful in whatever you do if the action is performed for its own sake rather than as a means to protect, enhance, or conform to your role identity.” ― Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose

Attachment 17 x 21 inches or smaller SKU 4399
“How do you let go of attachment to things? Don’t even try. It’s impossible. Attachment to things drops away by itself when you no longer seek to find yourself in them.” ― Eckhart Tolle

Forgiveness 17 x 21 inches or smaller SKU 4400
“There is only one perpetrator of evil on the planet: human unconsciousness. That realization is true forgiveness. With forgiveness, your victim identity dissolves, and your true power emerges–the power of Presence. Instead of blaming the darkness, you bring in the light.” ― Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose

Mind Dominance 17 x 21 inches or smaller SKU 4401
“Love, joy, and peace cannot flourish until you have freed yourself from mind dominance.” ― Eckhart Tolle

Birth 17 x 21 inches or smaller SKU 4402
“Life has no opposite. The opposite of death is birth. Life is eternal.” ― Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose

Invulnerability 17 x 21 inches or smaller SKU 4403
“In surrender, you no longer need ego defenses and false masks. You become very simple, very real. “That’s dangerous,” says the ego. “You’ll get hurt. You’ll become vulnerable.” What the ego doesn’t know, of course, is that only through the letting go of resistance, through becoming “vulnerable,” can you discover your true and essential invulnerability.” ― Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment

Accepting Uncertainty 17 x 21 inches or smaller SKU 4404
“If uncertainty is unacceptable to you, it turns into fear. If it is perfectly acceptable, it turns into increased aliveness, alertness, and creativity.” ― Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose

Whose God Is It 31 x 40 inches or smaller SKU 4405
“The word God has become empty of meaning through thousands of years of misuse… By misuse, I mean that people who have never glimpsed the realm of the sacred, the infinite vastness behind that word, use it with great conviction, as if they knew what they are talking about. Or they argue against it, as if they knew what it is they are denying. This misuse gives rise to absurd beliefs, assertions, and egoic delusions, such as “My or our God is the only true God, and your God is false,” or Nietzsche’s famous statmeent “God is dead.” ― Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment

Deny Yourself 31 x 40 inches or smaller SKU 4406
“A powerful spiritual practice is consciously to allow the diminishment of ego when it happens without attempting to restore it. I recommend that you experiment with this from time to time. For example, when someone criticizes you, blames you, or calls you names, instead of immediately retaliating or defending yourself – do nothing. Allow the self-image to remain diminished and become alert to what that feels like deep inside you. For a few seconds, it may feel uncomfortable, as if you had shrunk in size. Then you may sense an inner speciousness that feels intensely alive. You haven’t been diminished at all. In fact, you have expanded. You may then come to an amazing realization: When you are seemingly diminished in some way and remain in absolute non-reaction, not just externally but also internally, you realize that nothing real has been diminished, that through becoming “less,” you become more. When you no longer defend or attempt to strengthen the form of yourself, you step out of identification with form, with mental self-image. Through becoming less (in the ego’s perception), you in fact undergo an expansion and make room for Being to come forward. True power, who you are beyond form, can then shine through the apparently weakened form. This is what Jesus means when he says, “Deny yourself” or “Turn the other cheek.” ― Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose

It Already Is 31 x 40 inches or smaller SKU 4407
“What could be more futile, more insane, than to create inner resistance to something that already is?” ― Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment

Evolve or Die 31 x 40 inches or smaller SKU 4408
“A significant portion of the earth’s population will soon recognize, if they haven’t already done so, that humanity is now faced with a stark choice: Evolve or die.” ― Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose

Suffering Transcended 31 x 40 inches or smaller SKU 4409
“The ego says, ‘I shouldn’t have to suffer,’ and that thought makes you suffer so much more. It is a distortion of the truth, which is always paradoxical. The truth is that you need to say yes to suffering before you can transcend it.” ― Eckhart Tolle

Ancestral Mind 29 x 40 inches or smaller SKU 4410
“Even if the voice is relevant to the situation at hand, it will interpret it in terms of the past. This is because the voice belongs to your conditioned mind, which is the result of all your past history as well as of the collective cultural mind-set you inherited.” ― Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment

Always Wanting 15 x 21 inches or smaller SKU 4411
“Carl Jung tells in one of his books of a conversation he had with a Native American chief who pointed out to him that in his perception most white people have tense faces, staring eyes, and a cruel demeanor. He said: “They are always seeking something. What are they seeking? The whites always want something. They are always uneasy and restless. We don’t know what they want. We think they are mad.” ― Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment

Mind Witnessing 18 x 27 inches or smaller SKU 4412
“The moment you realize you are not present, you are present. Whenever you are able to observe your mind, you are no longer trapped in it. Another factor has come in, something that is not of the mind: the witnessing presence.” ― Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment

Dark Desire 14 x 10 inches or smaller SKU 4413
“The light is too painful for someone who wants to remain in darkness.” ― Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment

Relate Without Blame 17 x 13 inches or smaller SKU 4414
“If you both agree that the relationship will be your spiritual practice, so much the better. You can then express your thoughts and feelings to each other as soon as they occur, or as soon as a reaction comes up, so that you do not create a time gap in which an unexpressed or unacknowledged emotion or grievance can fester and grow. Learn to give expression to what you feel without blaming. Learn to listen to your partner in an open, nondefensive way. Give your partner space for expressing himself or herself. Be present. Accusing, defending, attacking – all those patterns that are designed to strengthen or protect the ego or to get its needs met will then become redundant. Giving space to others – and to yourself – is vital. Love cannot flourish without it. When you have removed the two factors that are destructive to relationships – when the pain-body has been transmuted and you are no longer identified with mind and mental positions – and if your partner has done the same, you will experience the bliss of the flowering of relationship. Instead of mirroring to each other your pain and your unconsciousness, instead of satisfying your mutual addictive ego needs, you will reflect back to each other the love that you feel deep within, the love that comes with the realization of your oneness with all that is. This is the love that has no opposite.” ― Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment

Past Preventing Present 17 x 21 inches or smaller SKU 4415
“The more shared past there is in a relationship, the more present you need to be…” ― Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose tags: past, present, relationship

Inner Space 17 x 21 inches or smaller SKU 4416
“The pollution of the planet is only an outward reflection of an inner psychic pollution: millions of unconscious individuals not taking responsibility for their inner space.” ― Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment

Inner Purpose 17 x 21 inches or smaller SKU 4417
“It is precisely through the onset of old age, through loss or personal tragedy, that the spiritual dimension would traditionally come into people’s lives. This is to say, their inner purpose would emerge only as their outer purpose collapsed and the shell of the ego would begin to crack open. The emphasis shifts from doing to Being, and our civilization, which is lost in doing, knows nothing of Being. It asks: being? What do you do with it?” ― Eckhart Tolle

Consciousness First 10 x 12 inches or smaller SKU 4418
“You may remember the paradox of time we mentioned earlier: Whatever you do takes time, and yet it is always now. So while your inner purpose is to negate time, your outer purpose necessarily involves future and so could not exist without time. But it is always secondary. Whenever you become anxious or stressed, outer purpose has taken over, and you lost sight of your inner purpose. You have forgotten that your state of consciousness is primary, all else secondary.” ― Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose

Present Moment 17 x 21 inches or smaller SKU 4419“Let me say it again: the present moment is all you ever have.” ― Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose
Love Attacked 14 x 11 inches or smaller SKU 4420“You cannot love your partner one moment and attack him or her the next.” ― Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment
Persisting Pain 17 x 21 inches or smaller SKU 4421“But look closely and you will find that your thinking and behavior are designed to keep the pain going, for yourself and others. If you were truly conscious of it, the pattern would dissolve, for to want more pain is insanity, and nobody is consciously insane.” ― Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment
Vernal Vibration 17 x 21 inches or smaller SKU 4422
Depicting my vision of the vibrational level of the consciousness as it anticipates Spring.

Delayed Labelling 21 x 17 inches or smaller SKU 4423
Take a moment to release judgment and labeling. Sink into the image and absorb the colors and, composition. Most of us try and leap ahead to labeling something based on our experience. When we look at a tree and quickly label it as a tree needing no further investigation, we fail to appreciate the form, complexity and original beauty in each tree.
Improving our observation skills can improve our life. Joel

Freedom 21 x 17 inches or smaller SKU 4424
How can you set yourself free from the tyranny of the ego, the mind, the emotions and the past? Start by observing your mind and emotions rather than resisting them. Love the fact that you notice, accept what is and have decided to grow beyond your current definition of self. You can change for “I” centered to “oneness” centered and become free to follow your life’s purpose. Joel Bowers, Digital Inspirational Artist 3/8/2018

Reconditioning Mind 17 x 21 inches or smaller SKU 4425
likes Like “Your unhappiness ultimately arises not from the circumstances of your life but from the conditioning of your mind.” ― Eckhart Tolle, Stillness Speaks 15

Start From Here 21 x 16 inches or smaller SKU 4426
Start from here or where you are at. Resisting the truth imprisons us in fighting, denying and never growing beyond the current situation. Joel Bowers 3/8/18
“Acceptance of the unacceptable is the greatest source of grace in this world.” ― Eckhart Tolle
Beyond The Mind 21 x 17 inches or smaller SKU 4427“All things that truly matter – beauty , love , creativity ,joy , inner-peace – arise from beyond the mind .” ― Eckhart Tolle
Persistent Resistance 21 x 17 inches or smaller SKU 4428

“whatever you fight, you strengthen. What you resist, persists. “A New Earth”:War is a mind set” ― Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose

“The philosopher Descartes believed he had found the most fundamental truth when he made his famous statement: “I think, therefore I am.” He had, in fact, given expression to the most basic error: to equate thinking with Being and identity with thinking. The compulsive thinker, which means almost everyone, lives in a state of apparent separateness, in an insanely complex world of continuous problems and conflict, a world that reflects the ever-increasing fragmentation of the mind.” ― Eckhart Tolle

Live Now 17 x 21 inches or smaller SKU 4429“You don’t have to wait for something “meaningful” to come into your life so that you can finally enjoy what you do. There is more meaning in joy than you will ever need. The “waiting to start living” syndrome is one of the most common delusions of the unconscious state.” ― Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose

Deep Loss 17 x 21 inches or smaller SKU 4430“Whenever any kind of deep loss occurs in your life – such as loss of possessions, your home, a close relationship; or loss of your reputation, job, or physical abilities – something inside you dies. You feel diminished in your sense of who you are. There may also be a certain disorientation. “Without this…who am I?” When a form that you had unconsciously identified with as part of yourself leaves you or dissolves, that can be extremely painful. It leaves a hole, so to speak, in the fabric of your existence. When this happens, don’t deny or ignore the pain or the sadness that you feel. Accept that it is there. Beware of your mind’s tendency to construct a story around that loss in which you are assigned the role of victim. Fear, anger, resentment, or self-pity are the emotions that go with that role. Then become aware of what lies behind thoseemotions as well as behind the mind-made story: that hole, that empty space. Can you face and accept that strange sense of emptiness? If you do, you may find that it is no longer a fearful place. You may be surprised to find peace emanating from it. Whenever death occurs, whenever a life form dissolves, God, the formless and unmanifested, shines through the opening left by the dissolving form. That is why the most sacred thing in life is death. That is why the peace of God can come to you through the contemplation and acceptance of death.” ― Eckhart Tolle, Stillness Speaks

Forgive Yourself 18 x 27 inches or smaller SKU 4431

“Jesus’ words, “Forgive them for they do not know what they do,” also apply to yourself.” ― Eckhart Tolle, Stillness Speaks

Life Wants 18 x 27 inches or smaller SKU 4432

“Instead of asking, “what do I want from life?,” a more powerful question is, “what does life want from me?” ― Eckhart Tolle

Blind Ego 17 x 21 inches or smaller SKU 4433 “Resistance is weakness and fear masquerading as strength. What the ego sees as weakness is your Being in its purity, innocence, and power. What it sees as strength is weakness.” ― Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment
Wanting To Be Seen 17 x 21 inches or smaller SKU 4434 “demanding recognition for something you did and getting angry or upset if you don’t get it; trying to get attention by talking about your problems, the story of your illnesses, or making a scene; giving your opinion when nobody has asked for it and it makes no difference to the situation; being more concerned with how the other person sees you than with the other person, which is to say, using other people for egoic reflection or as ego enhancers; trying to make an impression on others through possessions, knowledge, good looks, status, physical strength, and so on; bringing about temporary ego inflation through angry reaction against something or someone; taking things personally, feeling offended; making yourself right and others wrong through futile mental or verbal complaining; wanting to be seen, or to appear important.” ― Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose

Not Waiting 18 x 27 inches or smaller SKU 4438

“So give up waiting as a state of mind. When you catch yourself slipping into waiting . . . snap out of it. Come into the present moment. Just be, and enjoy being. If you are present, there is never any need for you to wait for anything. So next time somebody says, “Sorry to have kept you waiting,” you can reply, “That’s all right, I wasn’t waiting. I was just standing” ― Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment

Treasure Within 18 x 27 inches or smaller SKU 4439

“Those who have not found their true wealth, which is the radiant joy of Being and the deep, unshakable peace that comes with it, are beggars, even if they have great material wealth. What Might Happen 10 x 14 inches or smaller SKU 4442

“The psychological condition of fear is divorced from any concrete and true immediate danger. It comes in many forms: unease, worry, anxiety, nervousness, tension, dread, phobia, and so on. This kind of psychological fear is always of something that might happen, not of something that is happening now.” ― Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment
